Ja'el's natural aptitude and experience allows him to be universally useful in combat, but his clear strength is his defensive capabilities. There are not many knights as capable as he is in this regard, so it is recommended to save him for greater threats.

Footnotes

By power metrics alone, Ja'el is quite strong in magic as a whole, but his sole focus on defensive technique makes his actual spell casting rather lack luster. Additionally, he does not have a clear elemental affinity, and rarely performs elemental magic as a whole.

His raw strength is arguably around average compared to all the knights, but his constitution allows him to land stronger hits, forcing enemies to react suboptimally.

Equipment

As a royal knight, Ja'el predominantly uses standard-issue equipment – he dons a suit of armor that covers most of his body apart from the head, alongside a shield retro-fitted to be collapsible for easier carrying.

Jet Hammer

Instead of a standard weapon such as a sword, axe, or mace, Ja'el uses a chain hammer, sacrificing raw power for extended range and unpredictability in his movement.

Signature Technique - Nullification

Ja'el has developed a defensive technique called Nullification, focused on withstanding any attacks thrown at him, no matter how strong, nor frequent.

Nullification can be performed in three different ways.

Deflection

Attacks are angled to miss, and "bounce" off the point of impact.

The lowest cost option, deflection is reliable in defending yourself, but prevents your surroundings from being protected. Useful in a last stand, but the surrounding damage is difficult to plan for.

Absorption

Attacks are zeroed out, and nothing happens

Harder to do, but prevents anything or anyone from being hurt/damaged. Ja'el's main form of nullification.

Reflection

Attack are fully shot back towards the sender.

Ja'el's trump card, Reflection is his ultimate move. When performed, Reflection completely negates an attack, returning it back to the sender. This is not a single repeatable spell, but an active skill performed by Ja'el when he has analyzed an opponents attacks, understanding it's inner workings.

Though his strongest ability, Reflection consumes massive amounts of mana, and will wear him out if use consecutively. On top of his natural fortitute, this ability is reserved for the right situations.

Technique - Commanding Presence

Ja'el was afflicted with a passive charm that constantly brings attention towards him. This has minor effects in his normal life, but plays to his strengths in a fight, as opponents will default to him if no target is preferrable.

In exchange for this power, he is unable to turn it off.

  1. Ja'el technically has an Ethereal affinity, though he rarely performs any spells that demonstrate this, instead using it to heighten his endurance. ↩︎
